This article is a prototype for including PNG/Melanesia-related English-language articles in the new bilingual Wikipedia.
The article was originally copied over by me from the EN Wikipedia several months ago as a subpage in the Tok Pisin article "Niu Aialan Ailan". I initially set it up back then as a subpage (in the Main namespace) as a first test in creating a multi-lingual TPI Wikipedia. However, I was later advised by a Wikipedia Administrator that subpages are not allowed in the Main namespace (but are allowed in all other namespaces), and that my subpage would have to be removed.
Keeping in mind that the TPI Wikipedia is now a bilingual Tok Pisin-English Wikipedia, I kept the English-language article in Main namespace by moving/renaming the subpage as (appropriately) "New Ireland". In the process I removed the #REDIRECT command that redirected "New Ireland" to the Tok Pisin article "Niu Aialan Ailan".
Since there is a "New Ireland" island and a "New Ireland" province, a disambiguation page will have to be set up when the English-language article about the New Ireland province is written or copied over from the EN Wikipedia.
