The statue, monument, or other three-dimensional work of art depicted in this media file is in the public domain in the United States for one of the following reasons:
  1. It was erected prior to January 1, 1923, or
  2. It is considered an unpublished work, has not been registered for copyright, and the author died more than 70 years ago, or
  3. It was erected prior to 1978, and is considered a published work, and either was not registered for copyright or the copyright was not renewed.
  • See the Cornell copyright chart for a help identifying what category this artwork falls into.
  • Information on sculptures in the United States may be looked up at the Smithsonian Art Inventories Catalog. That catalog in some cases also lists copyright notices inscribed on sculptures.
  • Statues erected before 1978 in public places are considered published unless public photography was prohibited, see Commons:Freedom of panorama#United States.
  • Installing artwork in a museum or other private place where photography is restricted is not considered publication of the item. Unpublished works from authors not dead 70 years will be deleted unless some other proof the item is public domain is offered.
  • Items marked with this tag with inadequate information will be deleted. In general, please give the following (if known): Place and date the item was installed, the name of the work, the name of the author and his life dates (years of birth and death).
  • NOTE: This tag only covers the item being photographed. An appropriate copyright tag for the photograph must accompany this tag! If you created this photograph yourself, choose a free license for your photograph. If the photograph is public domain for some other reason, choose a tag from Commons:License tags.
